District Wide Initiatives

Goals and Plans for the School Year 2011-2012 and beyond:

The foundation has proposed funding of up to $165,000 for the following significant District-Wide Initiatives. These initiatives are broad reaching and cover a grade level, school or discipline.

ACTIV Technology (ACTIVExpressions®):

These learner response systems allow all students to express themselves in the classroom instantly through the push of a button. Student responses are tracked, evaluated and graphed immediately; teachers then use this data to adjust teaching methods so that individual learning is achieved. The stories of how these devices can be used in the classroom are inspiring. The foundation has set a goal to fund over $58,000 towards the purchase of these systems across the District. This continues the history of the foundation serving as an essential resource for the District with the funding of over $50,000 of ACTIV technology over the last two years. We will continue this support, not only with the funding of learner response systems, but also by funding the purchase of up to $25,000 of ACTIVBoards.

High School Science Lab Computers:

Step into a chemistry or physics lab at Mount Si High School and you’ll see why the foundation will be funding over $51,000 to purchase new computers to replace significantly outdated and often broken down equipment. This funding aims to bring these science labs into the 21st Century and to help high school students get the science education they need.

Elementary Reading Intervention and Enrichment:

The foundation will continue to help support this essential reading program across the elementary schools. This reading initiative allows for students to benefit from small group instruction and to have access to reading materials appropriate for individual proficiency levels.

Natural Helpers:

The foundation is committed to sustaining this essential peer advisory program. As Mount Si High School grows, having trained Natural Helpers (peer mentors/mediators) to help students get assistance for various adolescent related problems and issues is vitally important. The foundation is proud to announce that we will fund the $4,000 in annual funding needed to sustain this program for a second year at Mount Si High School thanks to the generous donations from the Tanner Jeans Memorial Foundation.
